This is the best publication. Whoever you are, you are so appreciated. I called McGuire this week (I call often) and once again found that the quite nice guy who usually answers the phone was away. I left message: "If you care about children, you must oppose the dismantling of the Dept. of Ed. For once, have the courage to disagree and stand up to Trump. Do the right thing." No response expected.
Wow, that’s so nice to hear. Thank you! And thank you even more for making the call. I actually have a post coming in a few days about how those really do make a difference, even in a solid red district like VA-05.
As you may or may not have seen in the news, Indivisible Charlottesville invited McGuire to a town hall meeting during the March Congressional recess, but he didn't even have the courtesy to acknowledge the invitation. That makes another thing he wasn't doing. We'll try again for the April Congressional recess. Could end up being another one of those empty chair town halls that we've been seeing on TV.
Thanks! I did see that, though I was traveling and had to miss the town hall. Are y’all using them to drive action? Eg having people write letters or emails or do other things while they’re there?
I'm a new fan of your substack! Thank you for helping us keep an eye on the doings of our elected representative in Congress during recess. On the positive side, at least he didn't spend the whole week playing golf. On the negative side, another thing he apparently didn't do is anything to help our Ukrainian allies who are fighting for democracy and for survival, and who have been shamefully abandoned by their former American ally. :-(

Good to know. We are all wondering which actions actually make a difference.

There was no town hall during the March recess. Just a press conference about McGuire ignoring our invitation to one. Got good local press coverage.
